Experteer Overview
In this Principal Engineer role, you will shape Cisco’s standards direction by partnering with business leaders to align on strategy and progress. You will drive collaboration across multiple SDOs and with external open-source bodies to advance Cisco’s product vision.You’ll lead industry coalitions, cultivate partner relationships, and contribute to Cisco’s technology and patent portfolio, while mentoring engineers and streamlining standards governance. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role that blends technical leadership with strategic influence to accelerate Cisco’s standards-centric agenda.

- Drive engagement and alignment across multiple Standards Development Organizations (SDOs)
- Pursue leadership roles in external standards and open-source initiatives of strategic importance
- Shape direction in existing SDOs and foster development of new standards and open-source efforts
- Collaborate with industry partners to build initiatives supporting Cisco’s future business
- Support standards strategy across Cisco with emphasis on cross-BE areas
- Evangelize standards work to account teams and customers and gather feedback
- Represent Cisco at key standards leadership meetings and industry events
- Contribute to Cisco’s technology and patent portfolio
- Mentor engineers involved in standardization and related areas
- Improve standards operations including governance, IPR, employee programs, and legal coordination
- 5+ years in an engineering, technology strategy, architecture, research, or standards-related role
- 10+ years of industry experience
- Deep knowledge of AI, IP networking and security trends across multiple Cisco business areas
