With strong early traction across elite football and an expanding presence in Europe and the Americas, we’re scaling our commercial operations.

Kognia Sports is looking for a highly skilled Data Scientist to take ownership of applying our tactical data to real football environments and support our commercial objectives

This is not a pure research role. This role is focused on Kognia’s complex tactical datasets and turning them into practical tools and insights that recruitment teams, analysts, and sporting directors use every day.

An understanding of how decisions are made inside clubs and how data influences those decisions are a must.

Role Overview & Key Responsibilities
  • Translate Kognia’s data into recruitment and tactical frameworks.
  • Build role-based and position-specific player benchmarks.
  • Create comparative league models to support cross-league recruitment.
  • Knowledge of key analysis tools & dashboards including but not limited to :
  • SQL
  • Tableau
  • Power BI
  • Python
  • R
  • Dbt (Nice to have)
  • Structure data warehouse views that support deep-dive analysis.
  • Ensure insights are usable inside real club workflows.
  • Able to write code, in R/Python, to create custom visuals and interrogate data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including technology-based issues, and attention to detail.
Collaborate Across the Business
  • Work closely with product and engineering to improve data usability.
  • Support commercial conversations where technical validation is required.
  • Help ensure our outputs remain aligned with the realities of the football market.
  • Innovation & continuous iImprovement: Stay up to date with the latest trends in football data analytics and technology and recommend new methodologies to enhance insights delivery.
  • Act as a Kognia brand champion, representing the company across commercial initiatives, industry conferences, marketing activations and leading internal education activities.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years working inside a professional football club or sports analytics company.
  • Strong understanding of recruitment, scouting, and tactical analysis processes.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience building in Tableau or Power BI.
  • Experience working with event and/or tracking data.
  • Clear understanding of how data fits into day-to-day football decision-making.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex insights simply
  • English Speaking. German/Spanish/French (Nice to have)
